NMMA Certification Safety Labels

In the event of a boater inquiry, two (2) new safety labels are required to be placed on all new boats manufactured in the United States. They are: Prop Helm Label (NW 207-07) - "Rotating propeller may cause serious injury or death. Shut off engine when near persons in the water.", and Prop Transom Label (NW 208-07) - "Rotating propeller may cause serious injury or death. Do not approach or use ladder when engine is running." Both labels are available from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA).

M and O Department Reorganization

In March of this year a proposal for the realignment and naming of the Marines Safety and Operations Departments was submitted to the NADCO-O. This involves the transfer of one Division from each Department to the other and the renaming of several others.

Effective immediately the Marine Safety & Environmental Protection Department is renamed the Marine Safety (Prevention) Department.  The Commercial Vessel Examination Division is now Vessel Activities Division.   The Marine Safety Division is now the Port and Facility Activities Division.

T
he O department has been renamed the Department of Operations (Response), and is responsible for the administration of the Auxiliary's Surface Operations, Air Operations, Telecommunications and Incident Management Programs.

As of the first of July, 2007, the Operations Department was re-named the Department of Operations (Response) to better indicate the relationship of this department to its counterparts in the active duty Coast Guard.  Two other changes were initiated on this date:
-
The former Aids to Navigation Division was transferred to the Department of Marine Safety (Prevention)
-
The Division of Incident Management was transferred into the Department of Operations (Response).

Further changes are possible and will be addressed in upcoming issues of the department newsletters and posted on their web sites.
